A Call for Florida Homeowners to Go Green
People’s Trust would like to wish you a happy Arbor Day. Are you planting a tree at your Florida home today?
Arbor Day has been celebrated since 1872 and is a national call that accounts for roughly 18 million newly planted trees each year. Here in Florida, one of the most popular trees to plant on Arbor Day is the sabal palm, our official state tree. The sabal is the most common tree in Florida because it can grow in almost any soil available in our state and needs minimal mulch and fertilizer. Palms can also live through our winters with proper care.
The Arbor Day Foundation organizes events all over the U.S. in “Tree Cities” that partner for large planting services. Our own Boca Raton has been a Tree City for 33 years. Check to see if you live in a supporting city here.
Planting a tree can be a great way to have a green year along with other activities like switching to paperless statements and servicing your air conditioner. If you plant a tree, make sure to dig safely and keep the new plant away from the side of your home and foundation.
Have a great day and enjoy the new shade you’ve made!
