by BROOKE GOLD HASSON | Mar 13, 2017

Spring Cleaning Tips 2017Hello, spring! What better project to welcome the 2017 spring season than some good ol’ spring cleaning! In addition to making it sparkly clean again, now is a perfect time to declutter and organize your Florida home.

Besides, a clutter-free home is a happy home. Seriously – according to a 2013 survey, 55 percent of Americans stress out about home organization, with clutter being the main culprit.

Ready to get started? We’ve put together the following tips to help you make the most of your spring cleaning routine.

The Three-Box Method

To kick off your spring cleaning project, prepare three bins – sell, donate and discard. This sorting system will force you to make a conscious decision with each item, making sure you actually get rid of what you no longer want or need.

Tackle One Room At a Time

The idea of decluttering your entire home can feel daunting. To make things easier and less stressful, take it one day at a time, one room at a time. For example, focus on decluttering your bedroom and closet one day and then tackle the kitchen the next day (or following weekend, or whenever – you get the idea). This method is also more effective because your productivity will likely start to diminish after the first few hours.

Compartmentalize Your Drawers

Compartmentalizing is a great way to organize all those miscellaneous odds and ends – remotes, cords, utensils, paper clips, hair ties, you name it. The simple act of having a designated space for each item in your drawer can make a huge difference. Plus, you’ll be able to find what you need much faster.

Organize with Baskets, Bins and Boxes

A great way to make your home feel less hectic is to organize your belongings using decorative baskets, bins and boxes. Not only will these keep your belongings organized, they can also add some personality to your space.

Label Everything

To optimize organization and efficiency in your newly decluttered home, label your stuff – things like food jars, bathroom products, or storage containers. This will help reinforce the idea of putting items in their respective places, keeping your home clutter-free.

Get Rid of One Item Each Day

Want to take your spring cleaning a step further? Don’t just organize your stuff, get rid of it! To make it easier to let go, choose one item to part with each day over a certain period of time … for example, one month. This will allow you discover which items in your home you really use and which items are merely collecting dust.

Host a Garage Sale

Make a little extra pocket cash by hosting a garage sale! Choose a Saturday morning – preferably on a cooler Florida day – and set up the stuff you want to get rid of with price tags, then sell away! Post signs around your neighborhood, as well as online, to promote your garage sale.
