Bad news… Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, which means we’re in for another six weeks of bad, winter weather. Fortunately for us in Florida, we don’t have too much to worry about, other than waiting a little longer for swimming pool season to return.
The History of Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day originated as an ancient celebration that took place halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. According to the folklore, fair weather was a forbearance of a turbulent and cold second half to winter.
Modern traditions of Groundhog Day include celebrations where early morning festivals are held to watch the groundhog come out of its burrow.
